Kadeco (Keflavik Airport Development Company Ltd.) is responsible for the management, administration, and development of state-owned land surrounding Keflavík International Airport. In accordance with this role, Kadeco hereby requests that property owners and business operators at Tæknivellir immediately remove any materials, equipment, machinery, unregistered vehicles, and waste belonging to them that are located on unleased land within Tæknivellir and the surrounding area. This applies to land and lots for which no registered or valid ground lease agreements exist.
At the same time, Kadeco encourages property owners and operators holding valid ground lease agreements to ensure that their leased properties are kept orderly, clean, and free of waste, in accordance with their obligations under their ground lease agreements and the Municipal Police Regulations for Reykjanesbær No. 830/2012.
A deadline of 1 October 2026 is granted for the removal of all unauthorized items, equipment, and waste from unleased state-owned land.
After this deadline, Kadeco, in cooperation with the Police, the Municipality of Reykjanesbær, and Hringrás Recycling, will arrange for the area to be cleared and for any uncollected items to be removed. The transportation, storage, and, where applicable, disposal of such items will be carried out at the owners’ responsibility, risk, and expense.
With regard to unregistered vehicles and abandoned vehicle wrecks unlawfully stored in the area, these will be collected and moved to a designated enclosed storage area within Tæknivellir, where they will be held at the owners’ responsibility and expense for a period of 30 days. If they are not claimed within that period, they will be formally deregistered and permanently disposed of through an authorized recycling and disposal facility in cooperation with the relevant authorities.
Enquiries, information regarding ownership or authorization, and requests to reclaim items should be directed to Kadeco by email at kadeco@kadeco.is or by telephone at +354 425 2100. The same applies if there is any uncertainty as to whether items are located inside or outside property boundaries.
For property owners and business operators at Tæknivellir who wish to take advantage of the opportunity to clean up within their own leased properties, recycling containers will be made available at Ferjutröð for a two-week period beginning 1 September 2026, free of charge.
