Iceland Eco-Business Park (IEBP) is a collaborative industrial park developed around circular use of resources, shared infrastructure, and long term sustainability. Located within the K64 Circular Industries area in Iceland’s Airport Region, IEBP contributes to the broader vision for responsible industrial development around Keflavík International Airport. IEBP goes beyond a traditional industrial site by focusing on building a community where companies share infrastructure and knowledge, exchange resources, and create value from side streams previously considered waste. This approach supports the growth of green industrial activities while keeping emissions low and strengthening their position in international markets.
A unique environment for business development
The company was founded in 2021 and originates from the initiative of CEO Kjartan Eiríksson and Þór Sigfússon, Chairman of the board. In 2023, the company acquired buildings that were originally constructed for an aluminium smelter project that never materialized. This has created a unique setting for new business development in the region, spanning food production, aquaculture, and technology solutions, among others. “The Suðurnes region offers infrastructure of global standard. Keflavík International Airport is our closest neighbour, providing direct access to both European and North American markets,” says Kjartan Eiríksson, CEO of Iceland Eco-Business Park.

Everything a green industrial park needs in one place
According to Kjartan, it is essential to think beyond traditional real estate development. “We are not simply renting facilities to companies; our goal is to build a community for environmentally responsible businesses and forward-thinking entrepreneurs,” he says. “Here, everything required for green industry comes together—clean air, [JV1.1]abundance of drinking water, sustainable resources such as green energy and marine resources, ample land for development as well as the initiative and expertise needed to bring projects to life.”

K64 sets the framework, we bring it to life
The K64 strategic masterplan for Iceland’s Airport Region plays a key role in this effort. “The most important aspect of K64 is that it creates a unified vision for the area, rather than allowing projects to emerge in isolation without context,” says Kjartan, adding that predictability is crucial for successful development of this kind. “K64 sets the framework, and we fill it with our projects—turning the vision into reality.”

Aiming to become one of the most recognized eco‑industrial parks in the North Atlantic
Looking ahead, he envisions Iceland Eco Business Park as a leading example. “In ten years, we want to be one of the most recognized eco‑industrial parks in the North Atlantic region—a place where dozens of companies operate together and generate real export value,” says Kjartan. “We aim to strengthen employment opportunities, particularly for young people in the region from diverse backgrounds and education levels, and to show that it is possible to build industry in Iceland that is both profitable and sustainable”
